The Hospital (it's a part-work)

Once again, I've missed my self-imposed Wednesday deadline for a new article.  I'm annoyed with myself that this keeps happening recently; maybe I've got too many things going on simultaneously?

That being so, here's a quick description and a couple of pictures of my part-built Grekwood hospital.  I really need to complete this before I can continue with my ATZ campaign, as the last couple of episodes have clearly been leading up to a scenario set in a place of healing.  Please be patient; it may take me some time yet and I'm also finding this quite frustrating...

As you can see, I have made a start on the hospital!  So far I've completed 1 ward & day room, 1 corridor section and the entrance hall (less the steps and sign).  Also you can see the floor for a second hallway.

My vision is for a 2-storey affair with 4 "wards", though I'll probably only outfit 2 of them as real wards.  The remaining 2 should contain other hospital services, though I'm not sure what.  Perhaps a cafeteria and out-patient clinics?  Or an operating theatre?  Or administrative offices, a pharmacy, a laboratory or even an industrial laundry?  Ah, so many ideas; I know that I cannot realistically do them all.

At least the build is very modular, so this does leave open the possibility of expansion later.  It should also make the pieces a bit easier to store, I hope.

So far I've really only got the shells for these rooms.  I've done a little work on the roofs, but almost none on the furniture and fittings.  Hmm, perhaps this is all too ambitious and I should settle for a much smaller establishment?  Ah, but I have such dreams...

    1. Ah, well - it's easy for you to say "go big", but I'm the one who's doing the work :-) !

  2. Realistically It should be offices in any spare rooms as every hospital has many many many of those. But maybe they don't make such good gaming places. What about a morgue! that might be more fun. I look forward to this developing Nice work so far and I know it will get better.

    1. A morgue, huh? I hadn't thought of that, but I like the idea! Not sure where I'd get the textures for the interior, though...

  3. I think this is quite an ambitious build C6, good luck with it. I think every zombie gamer would like something similar (like the iconic mall everyone wants too), but there is so much you could add to it other than those you mentioned - maybe you should go for three floors ?

    1. *3* floors? You don't think that I'm being ambitious enough already :-) ?

  4. Having spent far too long in hospital, I have to say that hospitals are HUGE, so your build must reflect this, Hugh. In truth, you could fill a whole gaming board with a hospital and even then it should still be bigger! Whatever you decide on, this will be an ambitious project. Best of luck with it.

    1. I agree, hospitals all seem to be huge (though I'm sure that there must be some smaller clinics *somewhere*). It's not so much the walls and floors that bothers me though: it's all the fittings I'll need to build!

    1. Thanks, Bob! Another vote for "you do the work and we'll stand on the sidelines and cheer", then :-) ?

  6. Looks great so far, I agree with Bryan a whole hospital board is what's needed.

  7. Fantastic so far. As Bryan says, hospitals are huge so don't be afraid to up the overal size. Also, hospitals are where reasonably practicable built in a modular format with repeating central corridors around the different treatment and ancillary facilities, offices, wcs, operating theatres, morgue, treatment rooms, X-ray, canteen, reception, shop, pharmacy, janitor's closets, knock yourself out and good luck, it looks great so far!

    1. You're right: I'm not being nearly ambitious enough, am I :-) ? At the very least I should plan for a hospital shop as well!

  8. I watched Carl's take shape when he was designing it and it looks amazing. Yours is coming along nicely. I'd continue and stick with it. Will be well worth it when completed.

    1. Well, I've got a long way to go with this. It's hard to tell how long it will take to "complete"...

  9. That looks cool! An ambitious project, but will be worth it in the end.

  10. I don't know about the others, but your work is a great inspiration for me (even if you just happen to work on projects I think about!), so you can't just back down now.

And you can always set it in Slovenia, everything is pocket size here, so you could get away with building "only" two stories :D

    1. Thanks, L.S. I do want to go all out, but I'm not sure if I can. I'll just have to keep plugging away at it...

  13. Nice! You're doing a great job!! I'm Carl by the way from Grek Minis :) I don't get to see many things I sell painted up or made, so it's always nice to see :)

It does take a while to build, but it does look pretty cool when done. I had to enlist the help of my dad to build our 10 wards... it took a while!

    1. Thanks, Carl! 10 wards must indeed have taken a while, though I guess that at least there's a sort of pattern or rhythm to it after a while :-) .

The ones I'm really dreading are those that I plan to turn into something other than wards. The outer walls will be simple enough, but I haven't yet worked out how to detail the interior for a morgue, an operating theatre, a cafeteria or whatever else I decide to do!

  14. Again feel like I'm too late to contribute to this thread, I hope you're still working on this project. Don't forget A&E and an ambulance bay and somewhere for the exhausted medics to crash out!

    1. The Hospital has been on hold for quite a while, sadly. However, I do intend to get back to it real soon now. No, really...
