Zomtober 2017, Week 1

Introduction

Would you believe it?  This is the 5th year running that I have participated in Zomtober (see here for rules and a list of participants).  As a quick reminder, here are my previous efforts:
"I'm not scared of you, mister!"
 As ever, my Zomtober presentation is a "duel" between a survivor and a zombie.  In this case, the survivor is a little girl named "Abbie".  I'll call her opponent "Generic Male Zombie" (GMZ for short), because I cannot think of anything particularly unusual to mark him out from the crowd.



GMZ is a plastic model from Studio Miniatures (at least, the body and arms are; I'm not certain that I didn't take the head from somewhere else).  His tee shirt has been decorated with a home made decal.  The figure is mounted on a base from Escenorama.



Abbie is a metal model and I really cannot recall where I obtained this miniature.  She has the look of a figure from Foundry Miniatures, but could just as easily be from somewhere else with a similar sculpting style.
In fact, I wasn't even aware that I had this model until I was looking through a box of part-painted figures a few weeks ago, with a view to finishing off some old projects for Zomtober.  No, I really don't remember her at all...



So, who will win the duel?  Abbie seems confident - defiant, even - but I don't think there is a remote chance that she could win a physical contest with GMZ.



Is she aware of the danger and taunting him?  Perhaps (trying to be charitable here) she is trying to lure the zombie away from another survivor who is in trouble?  Or is she really so sure of herself that she sees no danger here?  Playing "chicken" with the undead doesn't seem very sensible, but not running away if/when he lunges for her would be truly disastrous!

    Abbie's in trouble that's certain. I love the tshirt decal for GMZ, it really sets off the mini.

      Ah, to be young and foolish again :-) !
      I don't know about anyone else, but I will quite often cast my eye over a crowd when I'm out and about. It's quite surprising if you're not expecting it, but *most* people seem to have some form of decoration somewhere on their clothes these days...

    Lovely paint jobs on both mini's Hugh! Fantastic start to this years challenge, and wow! what a nostalgia trip looking at the previous year's entries!
    Maybe young Abbie had "rigged" the sewer grate, and is now concerned that her clever trap hasn't worked - or maybe he's just about to drop! ;-)

      Thanks. I'm having difficulty believing that this is the 5th year of Zomtober, for me at any rate!
      Hmm, I think that in real life, booby traps rigged by junior school children are not likely to work very well...

    Hope you have a Zombier version of Abbie! You just know her mocking the Zombie will lead to her stumbling backwards & becoming a snack for GMZ! Well done Colgar!

    Brill job. Abbie seems familiar but I can't place her. I was thinking Reaper perhaps?

      We have a winner! She is one of the 3 figures from Reaper's "Townsfolk: Modern Children" pack: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/child/latest/50042 . Which suggests that I might have the other two kicking about somewhere as well...

    Nicely done. The base and decal really work great with the plastic zombies

    Abbie's obviously got one of those acid-squirting-fake-flowers like Jack Nicholson's Joker had in the 1989 Batman film. 'Come just a little bit closer,' she's thinking to herself and then, squirt ... melting zombie!

    Really nice paintjob. I like the Studio plastic zombies, they seem to fit together better than some of the others out there.

      Thanks, Fred. The Studio plastic zombies have slightly long arms, I think - which works perfectly when they're posed as intended: reaching out for a victim!

    I think she has a switchblade in her hoodie pocket and knows how to use it. Seems fairly typical of the yoof of today... just look at that expression on her face...

    Great pairing C6, I always find it difficult tocomeup with suitable coulring for both my civvies and zeds, but your little extra 'decorations' make a big difference.
    As for Abby's chances, I suggest the flight rather than fight option!

      Well, for clothing colours I just look around the streets when I'm out & about, or pay attention to that aspect of TV shows - it's amazing where inspiration can be gained :-) . Zombies are much the same as civilians, though less clean & more torn.

    Abbie looks like a great figurine with her defiant (naively so?) pose. And you did a great job painting her too! :)
