Zomtober 2017, Week 3

<== Week 2 is here

Introduction

Right, I've just returned from a week's holiday in Kintyre (it was muddy!) to find that I owe another Zomtober post.  Is there no respite?

At least this time I had prepared a couple of figures in advance to present as this Sunday's zombie vs survivor duel, so that's not a problem.  Of course, there are 2 more weekends yet to come in October this year; I still have to paint up some models for them...

The Duel

This week's confrontation is between an unarmed survivor named "Lee" and "Orange Boilersuit Zombie" (OBZ).

Lee is a short, thickset man, dressed in denim dungarees and a white tee shirt with strong, thick-soled work boots.  He could be from almost any manual trade.

Judging from his actions, Lee knows a bit of Kung Fu - or at least he thinks he does.  Perhaps he is indeed an expert, but I suspect from his slightly ungainly posture that he's more of a Jackie Chan fan than the real deal.

OBZ is a straightforward zombie in a brown boilersuit; he might have been an electrician, mechanic, plumber or similar artisan when still alive.  But why is he handcuffed - and what happened to the rest of the person to whom he was thus shackled?  Also, all the skin has been torn from his face, leaving just a grinning skull.  How did that happen?

The zombie model comes from Warlord Games' male zombies frame; he's mounted on an Escenorama resin base.

Lee is from the slightly weird Golgo Island range, specifically from Character Pack 5.  These are available from East Riding Miniatures, at least in the UK.  He's on a simple, home-made base.

Conclusion

So, what happens next?  If Lee is smart enough or lucky enough then he'll use his steel-capped boots to crush OBZ's kneecaps.  He can then run away (or walk, indeed) without being pursued.  However, if Lee has delusions of grandeur and believes that he can emulate Chuck Norris then I fear the worst for him.  If the zombie catches him then I think it'll end badly for the man.

Of course, if Lee really is a kung fu maestro then he'll kick the cr*p out of the zombie!

This way to Week 4 ==>

  1. Personally I think OBZ simply grabs Lee's extended leg, hauls him to the floor, and merrily munches upon his brains. That's what one too many Jackie Chan movies can do to you during the Zombie Apocalypse!! Great work on the painting and backstory, Colgar6; OBZ for the win in my books! :-)

    1. That sounds all too plausible! Thanks.

  2. I am with Blaxkleric, Lee is in big, big trouble from OBZ who grapples the leg swung him then proceeds to chew....

Great stuff, and I think one of your best. :)

    1. I tend to agree with you; I don't think that Lee knows what he is doing here.

  3. Lee kicks out and pushes OBZ to the floor, twisting his ankle in the process - no score draw :-P

    1. Hmm, possibly. Although a survivor with a twisted ankle is going to be in trouble - if not with this zombie then with the next...

  4. I think Lee's got this. It may look like he's woefully under equipped and wildly over confident, but he's simply luring OBZ towards him so it falls down the open manhole.

    Classic pit-trap ruse!

    Nice work.

    1. An interesting thought! That manhole cover does look dangerous; if the zombie steps on it then he'll fall down and break a leg or become lost in the sewers.

  5. It's actually a "dance off" - Lee and OBZ are just busting their moves! ;-)
Fantastic job on a great pair of mini's yet again Hugh!

    1. That's a lovely idea :-) ! Mind you, I still think that OBZ will win, even if it's just a dance off.

  6. Great models again. I'm attempting to fill in the "what happened previously" part of the story.

The evening shift started acting strangely after the welders used that unfamiliar set of cylinders. Nobody could decode the warning symbols, or the unearthly writing, but they were behind on the delivery...

Site security sent a man in with handcuffs to investigate, his radio sends nothing but static.

Now the morning shift are clocking on. Lee is usually first to arrive looking forward to a nice bacon butty from the canteen.
It seems that bacon's off the menu this morning.

    1. It's as good an explanation as any other :-) . Thanks, Steve.

  7. Great figures! The pose on Lee is brilliant and the little detail of the other handcuffed hand on the zombie is brilliant!

    1. Well, the handcuff (and the remnants within it) comes from the zombies kit and so I can't claim credit for inventing that. At least the painting is mine, though :-) .

  8. Another odd zombie! Faceless at that! Well done Colgar!

  9. What a cracking couplet, OBZ is a super sculpt and almost makes me want to buy the Warlords Male zombies, (almost but I really just want a single sprue of the female surviours)
I reckon OBZ is onto a cheap dinner here, Lee's stance seems all wrong, even for Jacky Chan (looking more like Charlie Chan kicking a ball)

    1. Yes, these's something odd about the position of Lee's foot, isn't there? I reckon that at best he's going to twist his ankle and at worst he's zombie chow! Thanks, Joe.

  10. Kick them over and run away! Great duel this week the Golgo range has some nice gems amongst it!

    1. The Golgo Island range aren't the greatest sculpts around, but they're serviceable enough. They do indeed have a weird and wonderful collection of figures (has anyone ever painted the giant zombie hamster, though?).

    1. Thanks, Fred. The pressure is now on to come up with decent duels for weeks 4 and 5 of Zomtober 2017.

  13. Nice one Colgar :) Your work here had me thinking. If Bruce had faced a zombie and suffered those iconic scratch marks on his chest AND licked the blood ... that would make, well, a zombie. ;)

    1. Yes, you're probably right: licking blood is not a good way to survive the zombie apocalypse :-) !
